Special Kidz Special Needz

Special Kidz Special Needz (SKSN) is an Australian children's charity and not-for-profit organisation founded in 2007 by Lee-Anne Heron and Charmaine White. We are parents of young children with special needs and we understand the range of complex issues, choices, opportunities and decisions that parents in our situation face. We met in January 2007 when our kids (Asialee & Jack) were in the same Conductive Education class and it was here we became friends.

From week to week conversation arose between parents about a range of topics including childcare, education, leisure & play, toys and travel and; there was always plenty of discussion about topics specific to raising children with special needs like equipment (seating, mobility, feeding, communication aids, access, environmental control, accessible toys), respite, therapies, self-care (feeding, toileting, dressing), socialisation, advocacy and how to get financial support.

We quickly realised how much support we offered each other by sharing information and contacts and discussing our concerns. We also recognised that whilst there is information available (depending on your child's specific need) more often than not, it was difficult to find and ate into our precious time. So we thought to ourselves,

"Imagine if all children with special needs and their carers could access a range of information in one place, at any time of day..."

and Special Kidz Special Needz was born!

Collectively we are actively involved in the day-to-day running of the Charity, and are committed to realising the SKSN Vision and Mission. We uphold the company values of honesty, integrity and commitment to provide a quality service to our customers.

As well as founding SKSN, we are involved in a range of committees and organisations that promote access, inclusion and opportunities for children with special needs.
